Boréalis
At Boréalis, we help extractive companies make responsible and sustainable decisions, both in terms of social and environmental, as well as economic impacts.
This interactive game is meant to promote the building blocks of corporate social responsibility to help players understand that all projects, small or large, extractive or other, have an impact on the communities, the environment and the economy of a region.
Setting
As manager for the Waisao Company, you’ve been mandated to oversee the construction of a railway linking a processing plant to a seaport located at a 100 km distance. In this capacity, you will need to make decisions about the construction of the railway which will have social, environmental and economic impacts. These will be your three performance indicators. To succeed in your mission, you must connect the factory to the port, while maintaining an appropriate balance between these three performance indicators.
Game over: Depending on your choices and the number of turns you’ve used, you will be assigned a score and one of the following profiles: The Green Giant, the Peoples Hero, The tightrope Walker. Your goal is to try to maintain the best balance and get the maximum number of points for each component. Beware! If one of these three aspects is neglected or if you exceed the maximum numbers of turns before you get to the port its game over. Your toolbox: To help your decision making, you have access to the Boréalis toolbox, which will help you predict the impact your decisions.
Immerse yourself in this great adventure and see if you can make the right choices!
